“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
We knew when we came here we would be a long way from the ones we loved, the ones who shared our lives and our names. We knew there would be big occasions we would miss, weddings, graduations, and funerals. We knew that, but we came anyway because this was where God called us to serve. We serve His children and the children of Bunda and the surrounding villages. We preach, teach, baptize, sing, praise and plant churches. We provide clean, safe drinking water. We teach sanitation and hygiene. We start and operate preschools and schools that teach English. We host missionary groups, and we do all of this just living on our pensions with no support from a denomination, NGO, or major missionary group. We just do what we were called to do. It has not always been easy nor do we expect it to ever be. We just do what we can with what we have knowing that lots of folks have hope in their hearts because they have Christ in their hearts. We also know that many are going to school that otherwise would not. That's why we are here, and that's why I missed my mother's funeral yesterday, but it was what she would have wanted. You can't really serve others without sacrifice--we just don't see it as sacrifice. The picture at the right shows how I feel about doing what we do. It's just grand, isn't it?
