Quote of the Day: “Social responsibility becomes an aspect not of Christian mission only, but also of Christian conversion. It is impossible to be truly converted to God without being thereby converted to our neighbor.” ― John R.W. Stott
We were honored today to be the first customers of the new cafe that our Canadian missionary friends have started in the village of Balamba. I call them Canadian because that's where they were when they moved to Tanzania, but they are originally from Finland where they are going tomorrow for a month or so. Sam and Sarah are the parents and have three boys with them. The two youngest will return in October with their mother and Sam will be back in July. Their house in now finished and they have built a cafe next to it to serve food and oven-baked pizzas and bread. We had pizza today that was delicious. They are integrating their ministry with service to their community, and it is marvelous to see. We love to be with them as they are also "faith missionaries" in that they have given up all that they owned and moved to Tanzania to serve without a denomination or large mission society funding them. They live on a shoestring and serve without question and are an inspiration to us. We met the pastor of the church, his wife, and the man who donated the land for their home and cafe, and his wife as well. Wonderful people--all of them. They have said, "Here I am, send me." We know what that's like.
