Quote of the Day:   “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.” ― Abraham Lincoln

So much of happiness in life is determined by perspective.  The late Senator William Fulbright of Arkansas once said that education is not truly education unless there is perspective.  He was right.  If we compare where we are living to an expensive hotel suite in Manhattan, we are living in the slums.  However, if we compare where we are living to our own neighbors living just a few blocks away, we are living in an expensive hotel suite.  It is easy, very easy, to complain and whine about what we do not have, but what we do have says so much more to us about how much God loves us.  To have family that love you, to have safe shelter, to have no worries about eating, to know that you have resources adequate to help you through almost every situation--that is true happiness.  We don't have access to Starbuck's lattes, yet we have some of the finest Tanzanian tea on hand--where is the hardship?  We don't have access to fast food, huge supermarkets, and restaurants, yet we probably eat better and healthier than most Americans.  I guess the most important thing about perspective is knowing that we are doing what God has called us to do.  That one thing trumps all obstacles, suffering, and sacrifice.  Besides, we are only resident aliens on this planet.  Our true home is eternal in the heavens.  We will arrive there soon enough.  What we need to hear, what we want to hear when we arrive are these words, "Well done, my good and faithful servants."  Amen
