Quote of the Day: “Nothing you do for children is ever wasted.” ― Garrison Keillor
Had a wonderful day today. Karen, Shaban, and I drove over to Lamadi to take some sunglasses to the albino children at St. Wiggins Academy. The head teacher, Collins, has done a masterful job of getting these very fragile kids under his protection. Life is very hard for them. Not only are they shunned by those with black skins, they are frequently killed and hacked up because the body parts are thought to bring great wealth or good luck or good fishing to those who own them. The government has cracked down even giving one of our neighbors a life sentence for owning a bone, but superstition is hard to kill. In addition, the sun hurts them, and they have serious eye problems as well. We can help with hats (we can buy them here, we just need the money to do it), sunglasses (not available here), and sunblock to protect their little arms and faces. They are so sweet and so grateful that you fall in love with them immediately. They can sense that you are there because you love them and that is not something of which they have a lot. We love them very much. Click on the picture at right to see about nine more pictures. They are so sweet, we hope you will help us help them to stay alive, well, and loved. They blessed our day today.
