Quote of the Day: "A hug from a four-year-old girl can make your whole day." Me
School has been out for three days for national testing, so Charlini has been with us all day for three days. I had forgotten how much joy she brings with her. We are paying for afternoon tutoring for her, so we don't see her until after four pm every day, and she is usually pretty tired by then. Robert Browning wrote a poem called "Pippa Passes" about a little girl that walked through the streets whistling and singing a happy little song. The poem tells of the struggles going on inside the houses she passed and how just the sound of her happy song brightened the lives of all who heard it. It is from this poem that we get the line "God's in His heaven, and all is right with the world." Hearing Charlini counting and singing in English while she does her "work" (drawing and writing on paper we provide) certainly brightens our day. Then, to have her come hug us before she goes home when she says in English, "I love you. I'll see you tomorrow." just makes us smile--on the inside as well as the outside. If you don't have a little one in your life, rent one for a few hours, it can change your life. There is no substitute for the joyful innocence of a child's laughter.
