Quote of the Day: If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded. Mark 9: 41
Today, a truck showed up to take 20 filters to two villages near Mwanza. A pastor of two churches, one in each village, bought them with money from some German visitors who heard about our biosand filters. They will be providing clean, safe drinking water for about 600 people in those villages and not for just one day or one week but for years to come. The filters last forever, have no moving parts, and just about never need maintenance. They cost about $50 per filter but since each filter can filter 200 gallons of water a day for years, it is a very economical solution to a very real problem. One of the district physicians told us that there has not been a single case of cholera in any of the villages where we have placed biosand filters. Our mission makes no money from these. The purchase price covers the expenses of making them and provides $2.00 per filter to the Methodist Church of Tanzania (which made $40 today alone). Clicking on the picture at right will take you to five more pictures of today and the latest photo of work on the new kitchen. We didn't even know about biosand filters when we came here. They were the brainchild of Jerry Buckingham of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, who had traveled to Canada to be trained. We have been building them for the past seven years, and our family has been using one for our own drinking water for all that time. What a gift Jerry gave that continues to bless people here in Tanzania.
