Quote of the Day: “Saints cannot exist without a community, as they require, like all of us, nurturance by a people who, while often unfaithful, preserve the habits necessary to learn the story of God.” ― Stanley Hauerwas
Pastor Festo came by yesterday to get the money to start work on the well at the church in Muranda, one of the five that Festo has started. I was there two years ago for the very first service when the walls were made of corn stalks and the roof was a U.N. tarp. Now, Muranda has built its own building by making the bricks themselves and raising money for the cement. We only donated enough money to pay for the concrete reinforced lintel that runs around the church above the windows. They just recently finished the roof and are now able to meet in the shade on the hot days and on dry land during the rainy season. They are a wonderful community of Christians and will soon start a preschool. The next church in line to get football goals and nets is the circuit church at Karikakari but Muranda is next after them. It is remarkable how quickly (especially for here) that these incredibly hardy lovers of the Lord have worked to make a building and even more importantly a faith community. We never tire of helping the community of Christ wherever it is. Muranda is not the end of the earth, but it's pretty far out in the bush.
