Quote of the Day:   The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known loss and have found their way out of the depths. --  Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

What Ms. Kubler-Ross is saying in the above quote is also explaining why we love it here so much.  We are living with a truly beautiful people because they have known defeat--have watched their children die, have failed to get food for their families, have built up a dream only to have it destroyed by drought or flooding.  These beautiful people know what life is in all its complexities.  They don't know about cancer because people don't live long enough for it kill them or they die for a reason that doctors here can't explain.  They know the joy of Jesus and the hope He brings.  They know how to sing on the good days and not let the bad days sour their tune.  They know the value of education and will sacrifice almost anything so that their children can have it because here it is not free.  They walk with their heads up, smiles on their faces, and gratitude in their hearts for all the kindnesses done them.  We are learning so much from them for they are so free to give--even if it is only a cup of porridge, they always offer it to me and say, "karibu chakula" (you are welcome to eat with me).  My family here has known defeat and suffering and loss.  We are finding our way out of the depths so that others can see the beauty in us.  We are on our way up.  Are you?
