Quote of the Day:    “The instant of birth is exquisite. Pain and joy are one at this moment. Ever after, the dim recollection is so sweet that we speak to our children with a gratitude they never understand.” ~ Madline Tiger

We need everyone we know to begin praying for Lusi and her unborn child.  She is due next week, but here, that means any day now.  This is a dangerous thing to do here--giving birth is frequently lethal for the mother (Charlini's mother died five days after Charlini was born leaving her an orphan) as well as for the baby.  This is from an article on NPR:  "Giving birth holds deadly risks for mothers in Tanzania, where on average one woman and six infants die each hour from preventable, birth-related complications.  World Health Organization data lists the Tanzania maternal mortality rate for 2005 at 950 deaths for every 100,000 live births. In comparison, the United States had 11 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births in 2005.  The leading cause of maternal death in Tanzania is excessive bleeding before or after birth, called hemorrhaging. Infection and high blood pressure also cause many maternal fatalities. The risks extend beyond the mother to the unborn baby as well."  So, please include Lusi and her coming baby in your prayers at your churches, Sunday Schools, prayer circles, and anywhere you know people who pray.  Thank you very much.
