Quote of the Day: Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. -- Mother Teresa
Since I've been ill, I've had a lot of time to think. I have discovered, perhaps not an epiphany but close, that it truly is in the small things that great changes lie. We help just a little here and a little there. We get one more child into school, one more mother sleeping under a treated mosquito net, one more village with a well, one more church with a preschool, and one more smile on a small child's face. Jesus said that giving one cup of water to a thirsty child was the essence of the kingdom of heaven. I think we are making big changes here but in very small ways. Alice reminded me that none of the many things she accomplished here would have happened if we had not offered her a place to stay. All we did was provide meals and a bed, but it was enough. God can make small things great but only if there is a small thing with which to start. If every day, you do one small good thing, in ten years you will have done over 3,600 good things and all God asked for was one. If you do them every day, they become who you are, and you never even think about them--you just do them. A kind word, a smile, a hug, a handshake, a pat on the back--you will never know how important those were to the ones receiving them, but the recipients do and God does. I have seen so many examples of little acts of sportsmanship in this Olympics that it gives me hope for our world. Do something today for someone else, however small. God will make miracles happen if you give Him something with which He can work.
