Quote of the Day: “Dare to reach out your hand into the darkness, to pull another hand into the light.” -- Norman B. Rice
An immigration officer is making the rounds of our main churches today and tomorrow to settle once and for all which church is officially registered in Tanzania as the Methodist Church in Tanzania. He will be here today or tomorrow because the Kenya backed church in Magu is causing problems (as I am told). If he officially decides that we are the rightful church then he will ask for the deportation of the Kenya church people. This, to me, is very sad. We have had meeting after meeting to settle this and every time I think it has all worked out, it blows up again. This is not over any theological difference--both churches believe exactly the same thing and are following exactly the same procedures. This is about money which makes me very sad indeed. Our church will not receive any money as a result of this but the church in Magu will lose the money from Kenya. In fact, this has cost the Methodist Church in Tanzania, over $2,000 in legal fees that we cannot recoup even though we have won each of the previous four lawsuits. Sad, sad, sad. I can understand why Jesus was so angry with the money changers in the temple. The church is not a place to fight over money. God is not pleased by this. Please pray for us.
