Quote of the Day: “Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment; full effort is full victory.” - Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
We have almost finished the choo and shower addition on the car park. When it is done, it will be for our staff and the kids from our school and the other two will be for the church and the nursery school in the church. Our security guards will get a break because they won't have to be opening and closing the gate all day. We can open it and leave it open till nightfall which is much easier. I was watching the men work on the choo, and I have to say they have a grace and competence that is a joy to see. One of our visitors (who was only here a few days) said he thought that all the men here were lazy. He was dead wrong. If there is work to do, Tanzanians throw themselves into it and work very hard. Our own staff will run when they could walk and always help each other. When we get back from a trip, all will come to help carry packages into the house. They get mad if we try to do what they feel is their job because they take it as an insult. One of the hardest adjustments we had to make was letting them do work that we were used to doing. The women also give a little curtsey when they bring things or thank us. That was hard to take, too, but it is their culture and custom. We are not helping if we are trying to change their culture so that their actions fit our culture. Too many missionaries have been down that road and few if any of their churches remain.
