John got to the immigration office in Musoma at 9:00am and was told the official he needed didn't come in until 10:00 am, so they ran some errands and returned at ten. John was then told the official was busy but would see him at noon. John came back at noon and was told the official had left for lunch at eleven and wouldn't be back until two pm. John slept in the car for an hour and then went back in at two and had to wait until three to see the official. The man pronounced that everything was fine, but they had to pay the money to the bank and bring back a receipt. So, off to the bank to pay the fee and get the official receipt. Got back and was given a receipt for the money from immigration. Then the official said the man who stamps the passports had left but would probably be back late Thursday afternoon. So, John goes back on Friday to get his passport stamped, an unofficial copy of the residence permit, and then, in a few days, the actual permit itself. And to think I used to complain about taking an hour to get my car registered in Arkansas. I have a French missionary friend that says that France makes this look like a drive-thru. Ah well, you do what you have to do where you are, but you have it pretty easy in the States. I'm just sayin'.
