In one of the packages Brenda sent us was a book for Charlini. It's a fold-out counting book using African animals. It was very thoughtful of Brenda, but she didn't realize that every day when Charlini gets here--she gets the book and then comes and grabs my hand and leads me to the kitchen table where we go through every page of that book twice. She would do it forever, but I make her stop at twice. Her counting in English is very good and her smile as she reaches for my hand would melt the heart of the Marquis de Sade. All missionaries struggle with depression at one time or another, but they don't have a little girl reaching for their hand every day. What joy a single child can bring if only we allow them. Jesus said all we had to do was offer them one cup of water in His name and heaven was ours. He didn't know about fold-out counting books because that works, too. If you see a child offering a hand--take it. Take it in His name. Show that child love and respect and the world will be a better place, for the child and for everyone else. God bless the children. May they lead us to that promised land.
