Yesterday was a day of minor disappointments.  A visitor who was supposed to come by never showed up or called.  A man who was supposed to deliver a gift showed up but without the gift.  A dinner that was supposed to happen didn't because of communication problems.  Karen fell in the bath tub and is all right, but the tub suffered and can no longer be used.  We found out that the surviving brother of my daughter-in-law has volunteered to go back to Afghanistan where his brother was killed last year.  My mother fell at the nursing home and is now in the hospital.  It would be easy to be down and say what a bad day it was, but it wasn't.  It was just life and the way of this world, and our little setbacks pale behind those of so many people suffering around the world.  We are blessed not cursed.  The measure of our character and Christianity is not determined by what happens to us but by how we respond to it.  We respond with hope and thankfulness for all our blessings.  May it always be so.
